Greptime Collaborates with Ant Open Source CeresDB Team — Jointly Advancing Open-Source Time Series Database Development

GreptimeDB and the CeresDB, an Ant Open Source community, officially announce strategic collaboration, with a joint goal to advance the development of open-source TSDB and the determination to address challenges in the field.

Collaboration within the open-source community has become an important element driving technological progress today. Guided by this spirit, GreptimeDB and the CeresDB, an Ant Open Source community, officially announce strategic collaboration, with a joint goal to advance the development of open-source TSDB and the determination to address challenges in the field.

About GreptimeDB

GreptimeDB is an open-source TSDB specially designed for cloud-native scenarios, focusing on technical improvement for performance, scalability, analytical capabilities, and efficiency of handling large-scale time series data. Built on top of cloud object storage, GreptimeDB provides users with a faster and cost-effective alternative compatible with InfluxDB, or serve as elastic long-term storage for Prometheus.

About CeresDB

CeresDB is a high-performance, scalable TSDB designed for handling large-scale time-series data, which has the same vision as GreptimeDB in terms of what to deliver to the end users. At the end of 2023, CeresDB donated its core product code under the name of HoraeDB to the Apache Software Foundation for incubation.

Achievements and Plans

The collaboration has already achieved several preliminary results. We have jointly developed SQL integration testing framework, Sqlness which has been successfully applied to the SQL function testing of GreptimeDB and CeresDB. In the near future, both teams plan to deliver more values to users in areas such as protocol parsing and Write-Ahead Logging (WAL).

We will share software libraries of parsing and executing PromQL and InfluxQL as well as related experiences to complement each other's unsupported query protocols. Additionally, we will co-develop a high-throughput, low-latency, fault-tolerant independent WAL service. This collaboration will bring fundamental values to the entire ecosystem of the Rust Distributed system development. It is worth mentioning that CeresDB will donate achievements from this collaboration to the Apache HoraeDB project.

Summary

This collaboration is not only an technical alliance between two teams, but also a manifestation of joint innovation within the open-source community. By sharing knowledge and technology, we are committed to exploring more possibilities, covering different specific application scenarios with the same underlying technology. We are confident that together we will bring global users in the open-source community a more diverse and efficient solution for handling time-series data, meeting complex challenges and real-life scenarios.

About Greptime

We help industries that generate large amounts of time-series data, such as Connected Vehicles (CV), IoT, and Observability, to efficiently uncover the hidden value of data in real-time.

Visit the latest version to get started and get the most out of your data.

  • GreptimeDB, written in Rust, is a distributed, open-source time-series database designed for unlimited horizontal scaling, high performance, and integrated analytics. We provide GreptimeDB Enterprise for corporate users which supports more enterprise features and customized services. Contact us here for more information.

  • GreptimeCloud is a fully-managed cloud database-as-a-service (DBaaS) solution built on GreptimeDB. It efficiently supports applications in fields such as observability, IoT, and finance. The built-in observability solution, GreptimeAI, helps users comprehensively monitor the cost, performance, traffic, and security of LLM applications.

  • The Vehicle-Cloud Integrated TSDB is a finely tailored solution that aligns closely with the specific business scenarios of automotive companies, addressing the challenges posed by the exponential growth of vehicle data. The multimodal vehicle-side database, combined with the cloud-based GreptimeDB Enterprise, greatly reduces traffic, computing, and storage costs, and boosts data timeliness and business insight capabilities.
